Dollar is following its heart. Forecast as of 06.11.2020

Weekly US dollar fundamental analysis

Markets are just like people. They follow their hearts from time to time and forget about common sense. Investors like the idea of the division in the Congress and the Democratic president. In this scenario, the risks of tax hikes and high tech companies' strict regulation are much lower. This fact supports the stock indexes. The S&P 500 has been up by 1% and more during four consecutive trading sessions, which has been for the first time since 1982. In percentage terms, those days have been the best since early April. Markets consider Joe Biden to be a better president than Donald Trump, which allowed the yuan to gain back more than 50% of the losses faced during trade wars. The EURUSD tested the resistance at 1.186-1.187.
The growing chance of Biden’s victory encourages investors to spend the cash, which they have been accumulating ahead of the US presidential election. They are buying stocks and bonds. However, traders forget about other factors, such as the pandemic, uncertainty around the new fiscal stimulus, and Donald Trump’s willingness to reject the voting results. It looks like an attempt to give out desirable for valid. According to TD securities, there should not be any concerns about challenging the voting results, which has pushed the risky assets up and weakened the US dollar. DZ Bank believes that the greenback is falling because the voting results were reported earlier than some had expected. I do not think the above arguments to be strong.
I suppose traders are following their hearts. They invest the capitals in the securities as they worry not to miss the uptrend, which sends the S&P 500 up, fuels global risk appetite, and weakens the US dollar against a basket of currencies.

Dynamics of world's currencies versus the US dollar

Source: Financial Times
How long can it be going on? It depends. People in love are passionate during different periods. However, common sense should win sooner or later. The USA performs better than the euro area at the current stage of the economic cycle. The Fed is not willing to boost the monetary stimulus while the ECB tends to increase the current QE pace. According to Bloomberg’s leading indicators, the largest euro-area economies face a deeper drawdown in the PMIs because of the new lockdowns. The euro-area bond yields fall, which signals that the markets expect the ECB to take active measures in December.

Weekly EURUSD trading plan

Let us be sensible during times of euphoria. Although the EURUSD has rebounded from the resistance at 1.186, the shorts entered in the zone seem vulnerable. It will be relevant to hold down the shorts if the pair goes below the support at 1.179. The S&P 500 rally could push the euro up above $1.188. The EURUSD medium-term outlook depends on whether the bulls can hold the price above 1.188.

Low/Zero commission online broker comparison

I was trying to find the lowest cost brokers that aren’t just mobile apps that offer passive investments in the assets I’m looking for on top of the usual equity and bonds I already have.
I’m hoping this will help people in my situation. I looked for a comparison website and found: https://brokerchooser.com/ which helped but I still had to dig around to get the direct comparison I needed all in one easily visible table.
What are your thoughts and experiences on the below brokers like customer service etc with these platforms?
Trading212 looks to be the cheapest and best all round but I’ve read bad experiences.
To diversify my portfolio I’m looking at:
  1. Renewables funds,
  2. Commodities,
  3. Individual shares and Crypto (a very small gamble 1% of total)
  4. Property dev/REITs,
  5. Venture capital,
  6. Higher risk corporate Bonds,
1 - 4 Can be invested in via ETF’s offered by most of the online brokers below.
4 - 5 Can be invested in using the other platforms below: Crowdcube, Seedrs, Syndicate room, Crowdproperty.
1 and 6 I think need higher cost traditional brokers like HL/Black rock etc but I’m not sure.
Here’s my comparison:
Free trades per month Products Fees (deposit etc) FCA Regulated? Bank transfer or debit card?
Trading 212 Unlimited Stocks ETF/ETCs Forex Crypto ISA Free ISA, no trade fees, CFD account has charges inc: 0.5% currency conversion charge, no forex fees Yes Debit card: Yes - Bank transfer: Yes
TD Ameritrade Unlimited $0 for US stock $6.95 for non-US Cannot find on FCA register Cannot find on FCA register
eToro Unlimited Stocks ETF/ETCs Forex Crypto Commodities via CFD’s No ISA - $5 withdrawal fee - Deposit and withdrawal fee of 0.5% - exchange fee (50 pips) 0.5cent/$1 e.g $7.5 on $500 - If no activity for 12 months charged $10 per month - 0.75% fee to buy bitcoin Yes Debit card: Yes - Bank transfer: No
Freetrade Unlimited Mobile app only Stocks ETFs ISA ISA £3/month 0.90% forex fee Yes Debit card: No - Bank transfer: Yes
Revolut 3 Mobile app only Stocks Crypto Commodities No ISA Complex fee structure Yes Debit card: Yes - Bank transfer: Yes
Degiro Unlimited Stocks ETF Funds Bonds Options Futures Crypto No ISA High fees (complex structure) Yes Debit card: No - Bank transfer: Yes
Other investment platforms:

Investment type Fees (deposit etc) FCA Regulated? Pre-emption rights?
Crowd cube Venture capital 1.5% Yes No
Syndicate Room Venture capital High fees 2% set up fee 1.5% – 2.3% annual 20% performance fee Life-time management fees of between 12.5% and 24.3% Yes Yes
Seedrs Venture capital 7.5% of any profit Plus variable sale fees Yes Yes
Crowd property Property 0% fees however returns capped at 8%. Yes N/A

Have you used any of these before or do you have alternatives?

What are the best Forex trading platforms/brokers?

Forex brokers are firms that provide currency traders with access to a trading platform that allows you to buy and sell foreign currencies. Retail forex brokers, handle a very small portion of the volume of the overall foreign exchange market.
Some of the best forex brokers:
Saxo Bank
This is considered one of the best forex brokers overall. It is the best overall because it has great competitive pricing to get involved, and has access to a wide range of markets. In addition it is very secure with multiple regulatory licenses. It also offers all forex traders with innovative trading platforms that really create more options for traders making them more successful.
Btw, I am trying to build a team with people who are interesting in learning how to trade. Here is the link to join my team and the name of the company is called mastery im academy. it is an education platform to learn how to trade https://iM.Academy/corp/cjoin?enroller=trade2bewealthy
IG
This forex broker is considered best for CFD trades which means Contract For Difference. A contract for difference (CFD) is a popular form of trading that helps traders to speculate on the rising or falling prices of fast-moving global financial markets. This means that traders who like this trading style look for a wide range of tradable products in their platform which you can find globally on IG. IG is also very trusted around the world which is good for traders because they need to be able to trust their forex broker. They also provide Comprehensive research tools and real-time exchange data. In addition, they have a broad range of markets, including multi asset CFDs like cryptocurrencies.
TD AmeriTrade
This forex broker is only for US residents but it is great for Americans if you need a forex broker. If you are an American I would suggest this one because it is ranked number one for customer service and is very well trusted. It is regulated within the United States standards and is very heavily looked after. It has a wide array of premium research and tools to help traders succeed. They are predicted to start using Bitcoin trading which is also up to date and will be useful. They also have excellent phone support which can be an essential aspect of trading if you are hands on with questions and need answers.
Overall, these are some of the best forex trading brokers. I highly recommend taking a look at these three forex brokers because they are some of the most regulated and also have good tools.

Stake vs Hatch Fees Explained

--UPDATE--
In light of Christine from Hatch's announcement of a reduction to a flat $3 broker fee, I've updated in a new comment here.
Treat the direct comparison of $ below as incorrect (once Hatch update their pricing).
--Old Text--
I decided to undertake a fees comparison of the two platforms as Stake is launching on Tuesday.
Comparing Hatch and Stake, the long and short of it is:
Most people will do the latter and be DCA in to a lot of smaller companies so Stake will end up being a lot cheaper on the buy-in.
https://imgur.com/a/wkuiIl1
Comparing to US based companies, assuming you use Transferwise to deposit into a US bank account and there is no fee to transfer from the US account to their service, Transferwise appear to get a 0.6% better FOREX rate than Hatch did when I just checked - Transferwise was $0.6067 vs Hatch $0.6029 (I'm assuming the Hatch FOREX rate will be similar to Stake, can't check atm as I don't have a Stake account until Tuesday). So the break-even point for using Transferwise at current FOREX rates is about $250 (below Stake is better, above Transferwise is better), excluding IBKTD Ameritrade fees (TDA have no broker fees currently). Hatch will allow USD transfer but only if you email them so I don't think you can use this as your regular deposit strategy.
One thing to consider with IBKTD Amertrade is they are US companies who are not at all interested in your NZ tax requirements so will not help you at all in the process. Customer support will be harder to get, and using Transferwise is not a trivial process especially if you are doing very regular deposits it can become a PITA for a relatively tiny difference in fees (eg if you deposit $500/fortnight the difference in FX fees is about $3 per transaction, so just don't buy that bag of chips and save yourself the hassle of using Transferwise + foreign based company IMO - and this is coming from someone who even changes power and ISP companies every year chasing better deals!).
Once you want to withdraw money, Hatch is obviously cheaper at 0.5% (edit: despite the $8 withdrawal fee) compared to 1% with Stake (and they have a $2 withdrawl fee that will be pretty negligible if you have a lot of money invested). Hatch will do an off-market transfer of US shares so best strategy might be using Stake for deposits and Hatch for withdrawals.
Another benefit to Hatch is that they are Kiwi owned so I think more likely to be accessible in terms of Tax and customer support than an Aussie based company (Stake). Lastly with Hatch, if a company is less than $400/share then you should buy a series of Fractional share bids unless you are buying more than 2.66 share units, above that the $8 broker fee is better.
Edit: I had a user complaining about the withdrawal fee of $8 through Hatch. This is true if you are regularly buying and selling shares. Typical advice given here is directed to buy and hold strategies (so you only get stung once for a withdrawal after X number of years), if you want day trading advice there are other subs for that. See my comment here.

Paying off a TD Canada US Dollar Credit card with BoA Credit Card

Hello, I am wondering how I can pay off my Canadian TD Canada US Dollar Visa card with my Bank of America Visa card.
My options right now are do a wire transfer from my BoA account to TD Canada us dollar chequing account. But that would require me to pay roughly total of 70 USD for outgoing and incoming fee.
Or I can take some money from my TD Canadian dollar account and FOREX it to my US Dollar Account in canada.
Or is there a way I can "pay" a US dollar account that resides in Canada with my BoA Visa?

Best Trading App for Canadians?

Hello! First just a quick thanks to this subreddit. Really brought my confidence up after I failed with forex.
Just wondering what is the best trading app for Canadians?
I am currently using Wealthsimple. I like the ease of use and interface. However no OTC stocks and no AH or premarket trading or graphs lol.
Tried TD as I bank with them and I really don’t like the interface. It’s harder to use than wealth simple. Also $10 brokerage fee on my first trade ???
Wish we had robin hood here. Any other ideas ?!
Thanks!

Trading ISK pairs

I cannot find a US Broker that trades ISK (Icelandic Krona). However, I am not sure if my research is accurate - i am not 100pct sure their ads are only listing popular pairs, not all the pairs they offer. Ive looked ar Oanda, forex dot com, and td ameritrade and as far as i can tell, they do not.
I know ISK trading was suspended in 2008 during their banking crisis but assume it is resumed?
Are there any UK or Eu brokers that handle it? Im having a hard time googling any useful information other than currecy conversions.
Any help appreciated, thx

That’s Fast! High-Frequency and Algorithmic Trading- Ticker Tape

That’s Fast! High-Frequency and Algorithmic Trading- Ticker Tape Think fast: you’ve probably heard of high-frequency trading or algorithmic trading. But do you know what it is, or what it “looks” like? High-frequency trading (or HFT) is well-established in today’s markets—here to stay. Yet, HFT isn’t especially well understood, and it’s often a source of controversy.
Generally speaking, it does carry some baggage, and there are valid reasons for that. But HFT and algorithmic (“algo”) trading often get get a bum rap, many market professionals say, and that high-speed algorithms do benefit markets and individual investors in key ways.
One primary source of confusion: there is not yet a widely accepted definition, says Ovidio Montemayor, managing director of trading operations and order routing at TD Ameritrade. In many ways, high-frequency trading is just one of many examples of the new, digitally driven “speed of business,” he adds—rapid advancements in computing power and data a.....

What safe pennystocks brokers can you guys recommend? (Only the ones where you have actually withdrawn profits count)

Hi guys! :)
I believe this is a good question for anyone who's new, especially coming from Europe, as we can't use WeBull or Robinhood, which I believe work pretty safe under all the regulations and after I've seen so many of you guys using them (though that doesn't guarantee you were able to easily withdraw profits still).
I've been digging in some of the old posts but I am very anxious about starting an account with brokers such as:
A quick search gives me results such as:
and the list could go on and on when it comes to brokers like those. I know these sites, especially Forex Peace Army, and these are mostly real opinions and reviews from real people who were scammed.
Thing is, in the past I used to work with the Prosecutor's Office and investigators on cases of brokerage scams, and plenty of such companies (even some of these I named) were also involved at times. I am really anxious about it as I can see everywhere people writing about playing against the brokers, so your loss is their gain clearly and I know some of the victims myself, who were simply scammed and robbed off of their hard-earned money, even life savings at times.
I've been trading normal stocks through my brokerage account at my bank in Poland, but I have no idea how can I safely trade pennystocks like you guys and be sure that if I actually become successful I am not going to be denied by the brokerage company that is going to come up with hundreds of excuses, technical problems, delays, questions for documents and verification, not replying etc. in order not to let a withdrawal go through. I know this all too well.
Can you guys recommend any legitimate brokers that are regulated by SEC or other financial authorities in the US for a non-US citizen? I don't trust CySEC, ASIC etc. - these guys are paid to give out licenses to anyone who pays well, so that's not safe at all, especially CySEC. Look how proud they were of IronFX in the past.
I will really appreciate any answers I can get :)
Thanks!

Ready to invest first time. Please correct my plan/strategy.

I have almost finished reading Millionaire Teacher, and am ready to invest. Will keep funds in for at least 10-15 years. I need to figure out my risk tolerance. I'm approaching age 40, thinking of keeping 35% bonds. At this point, I need to have my account on a brokerage ready ASAP as I learnt that it could take a few days to set up. For now, I am looking to purchase ETFs regularly. I'm looking at putting $100 per month. Hopefully cash flow will be disciplined enough to continue without breaks.
Currently, I have the following:

Please help me understand the following:
  1. How much cheaper is Norbert's Gambit than using a ForEx company to do a conversion from CAD to USD? I've never done either. I have done USD to CAD before, which basically takes 2-3 business days for the draft from the ForEx company to clear.
  2. I am considering either Questrade, TD Direct Investing or Scotia iTrade. Based on the reviews Questrade seems to be the best option. Which one would you recommended for a beginner like me? (Would be great feedback if you have used Questrade and TD/iTrade.)
  3. I mostly bank with Scotia. My investments will be 50K+ to start. Should I be considering iTrade over the other two for convenience? Or will the fees not make sense in my case?
  4. Is Norbert's Gambit possible to do with Scotiabank?
  5. Say I select Questrade, what is the most efficient (time/cost) process to move forward? Is the below correct?
    1. Transfer TFSA from Meridian to TD.
    2. Do Norbert's Gambit to convert to USD
    3. Transfer USD TFSA to Questrade.
    4. Transfer RRSP to TD
    5. Do Norbert's Gambit to covert to USD
    6. Transfer USD RRSP to Questrade.
  6. What steps above will incur least fees? I understand Questrade covers upto $150 transfer fee? But if I transfer my registered accounts to TD for Norbert's Gambit first, those fees won't be covered?
  7. Lastly, I'm not very knowledgable on RESPs. I understand gov't matches some part of the contribution? We have two kids, ages 10 and 8. No RESP yet. Can investments be made in RESPs? Any tips on this would be very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

USA - TD Ameritrade vs OANDA?

Hello, I am located in the US and have opened a demo account on both Oanda and TD for the past 2 years. I have found both platforms suitable to my needs (fxTrade and ToS), but am confused by all the fine print and am looking for pros and cons of each brokerage?
I use TD for my IRA and at one point another investment account, I like the fact they have physical locations in my area, customer service reps, established company, etc. On the other hand I know Forex trading is just one service they offer (not a primary focus I am sure) and dislike the $2,000 minimum requirement.
I understand Oanda to be a reputable broker with great service, but my primary concern is getting my money out, associated fees, finance charges, etc. I would ideally like to keep withdraw money as I make it (i.e. I make $100, I would like to be able to easily transfer that $100 to my bank account with NO FEEs at anytime).
My plan is to fund an account with $2,000, but I do not want to re-buy in if I lose it all, and in the case with TD if I lose $500, I can no longer trade on margin (I believe). I also do not want to be on the hook for additional money if I lose it all as well. I plan to scalp/swing/day trade (in my demo accounts I think the longest I have held an open position is like 3 hours), and when I trade I do not plan on leaving my computer screen and monitoring my trade in addition to setting limits, so I will hopefully catch myself before I fall too far.
I guess I am looking for anyone's experience (located in the USA), positive and negative, with either or both brokerages.
Thank you.

Personal Experience: Change brokerage from RBC&TD to interactive broker

I just want to share my personal experience change brokerage from RBC&TD to interactive broker since late 2019. I found interactive broker much better than TD/RBC for my US equity investment. I invest predominantly in US stocks, including Canadian companies dual listed in NYSE/NASDAQ.
Some of the big Pros:
  1. Very low commission compared to RBC/TD. 1USD for fixed pricing, 0.35 for tired pricing.
  2. Participation in pre-market and after-market. This help me to fill my aggressive limit order.
  3. USD/CAD forex is 2USD, even cheaper than Nombert Gambit.
  4. Fractional shares allow me to invest in Google/Amazon/Tesla in a more reasonable pace.(buy 500 dollars for four times vs buy 2000 at one time)
Some Cons:
  1. They have several platforms which is very confusing. TWS is most powerful but look ugly on Mac. Client portal is nice looking but function-lacking. I actually found IBKR IOS to be powerful but also nice looking, so end up mostly use IBKR IOS.
  2. Be careful using EFT deposit. There is a 60 business day holding period if withdrawal to a different bank.
  3. One might need to spend some time research on their fee structure, deposit/withdrawal procedure.
I have ignored IB for years due to it being an American brokerage and do not have physical locations. Finally tried it and now think it is the best for US equity investment in Canada. Hopefully if we move more investment to online brokerage such as Questrade/IB/Wealthsimple, eventually will shake the big 5 and force them to lower their ridiculous commission.(It is still nice to have one of the big 5 for some portfolio.)

Visiting London for 5 days this fall; should I just use PAYG (apple pay, mastercard) instead of Oyster/Travelcard?

We are taking a trip this Fall and was wondering if we should just use our Apple Pay / Creditcard for transport rather than bothering to get an OysteTravelcard.. I think we get hit with an extra 2% fee from our credit card company for foreign currency conversion but not sure if it makes a big difference.
Thanks in advance

Any no fee banks that receive international wire transfers?

I've banked with Vancity since I was 12 years old, but now I'm not happy with their pay as you go account which requires $1000 deposited at all times to avoid fees, which I see as ~$30-$50/yr in fees since I'd rather invest 80-90% of it anyways.
As such, I've moved all my funds to Tangerine and while I'm quite satisfied with their online only and no fees approach, I was disappointed to find out they don't receive international wire transfers. I need to receive international wire transfers about 1-2 times per year (from myself), so I'm wondering if there's a bank with no fees chequing accounts and also receives wire transfers? Preferably at the same rate or cheaper than Vancity ($5 + Middle bank fees; no control over middle bank, but it's usually TD; totals to $30).
I could keep both Tangerine and Vancity, then I could just leave $5 in Vancity, and they'd take $1 in fees from me each time I use it thereafter. So if I limit my receives to max 2x per year, I could only get hit with max $4/yr in fees from Vancity, which is acceptable but I am wondering if there are better options out there so I can simplify to a one bank only approach.
PS. I know there are other options like TransferWise that do forex quite cheaply and would work with Tangerine but unfortunately the two countries (China & Korea) I'm trying to transfer from have strong currency outflow regulations and I've never seen a discount forex allow a transfer FROM those countries before; though they often will allow a transfer INTO the countries. However, if you do know of any reputable forex companies that work with China & Korea, please let me know :D.

Dollar regains footing after Fed-driven stumble

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 56%. (I'm a bot)
LONDON - The dollar recouped some losses on Wednesday as traders looked to see which other major central banks might follow the U.S. Federal Reserve and make emergency cuts to their interest rates.
The euro has been one of the currencies to climb on the broad-based dollar weakness of recent weeks and it had slipped back to $1.1145 ahead of U.S. trading from Tuesday's two-month high at $1.12135.
"We are looking at how the central bank community is going to react now," said TD Securities' European Head of Currency strategy, Ned Rumpeltin.
"The dollar's weakness is reflected in the euro, because the Fed will likely ease more than the ECB," said Masafumi Yamamoto, chief currency strategist at Mizuho Securities in Tokyo.
"The resurgence of Joe Biden will help to dampen some of the downside risks for the U.S. dollar given fears over a sharper shift to the left under Bernie Sanders have eased," wrote MUFG currency analyst Lee Hardman.
In the Chinese onshore market, the yuan touched asix-week high of 6.9288 per dollar, another sign of the dollar's weak bias.

My credit card plan

Hello! So during school I was lazy for the most part regarding my banking, and now that I've graduated and I have a real job I want to sort out my financials and make sure I am getting the most out of my spending. Currently I have 2 credit cards, an RBC Signature Rewards and Scotia's Scene CC with credit limits close to $10K each. I am planning to cancel my RBC rewards because I'm in the process of switching out to TD and I'm not going to pay the $40 annual fee to keep the card, and as for my Scene it gets me good points but I don't got to Cineplex often and they keep jacking up the Scene redemption rates.
My monthly expenses are roughly as follows:
This is what I plan to hold (upon approval of course):
Simplii Cash Back Visa - Use exclusively for 4% on restaurants (I'll have to open an account with them tho, which is fine because I can churn and get $200 for opening one)
Tangerine MC - 2% back on the recurring payments + maybe gas? (IF I get approved that is)
Rogers WE MasterCard - $0 annual fee, 1.75% on everything, 2% on my Fido bill (in case I can't get Tangerine), 4% on Forex when I travel and online purchases + WE benefits. I don't make $80K but I feel like my combined household limit is $150K but I need to double check this.
And my fallback option if I can't get the Rogers WE is to go for the SimplyCash and get 1.25% on the rest of my purchases. I saw somewhere that the Amex Cobalt was good but I got confused on how the redemption works and I don't think be positive enough over the $120 annual fee for it to be worth it. Also I was exploring the TD and Scotiabank offers and they didn't seem to entice me as much as the Rogers WE, and I can get TD's annual fee's waved because I can put $5K liquid as my emergency funds in a No Limit account and avoid banking/CC fees. I could do the same for Scotia with their new account, but I am wary of them because I've heard stories on here about them being poor to deal with.
Thanks for looking and I'll appreciate any advice on cards that I may have missed!
